Atreyee Gupta, a young social entrepreneur, has dedicated her life to empowering underprivileged children in India. Through her non-profit organization, Beam, she provides STEM education to children who would otherwise lack access to such opportunities. Gupta's tireless efforts have transformed the lives of thousands of children, giving them the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the 21st century.

Atreyee Gupta was born in Kolkata, India, in 1990. Growing up in a middle-class family, she witnessed firsthand the disparity in educational opportunities between the privileged and the underprivileged. This ignited in her a burning desire to make a difference in the lives of children who lacked the resources to reach their full potential.

After completing her schooling in Kolkata, Gupta pursued a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the prestigious Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS),Pilani. During her time at BITS, she volunteered extensively at local schools and orphanages, where she discovered the profound impact that STEM education could have on children's lives.

In 2013, while still a student at BITS, Gupta founded Beam, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing STEM education to underprivileged children. She realized that these children had immense potential but lacked the support and resources they needed to develop their skills.

Beam's mission is to empower children through STEM education, instill in them a love for learning, and enable them to become active participants in the innovation economy. The organization focuses on providing hands-on, experiential learning opportunities that engage children in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

Beam offers a range of programs tailored to the needs of underprivileged children at different age levels. These programs include:

  • Beam Builder Clubs: After-school clubs that provide hands-on STEM activities and workshops to children in grades 3-10.
  • Beam Scholars Program: A rigorous mentorship program that pairs high-potential children from underprivileged backgrounds with mentors from diverse STEM fields.
  • Beam Summer Camps: Immersive STEM summer camps that provide children with a fun and engaging way to explore STEM concepts and develop their skills.
  • Beam Fellowships: Fellowships for teachers and educators to enhance their STEM teaching skills and create a positive learning environment for their students.

Beam's impact has been profound. Since its inception, the organization has reached over 100,000 children across India. Beam Builder Clubs have been established in over 200 schools, and over 1,000 children have participated in Beam Scholar Program.

Beam's alumni have gone on to pursue higher education in prestigious universities and STEM fields. Many have also become leaders in their communities, using their STEM skills to solve local problems and make a positive impact on the world.

Atreyee Gupta's work with Beam has received widespread recognition and accolades. She has been honored with numerous awards, including:

  • Forbes 30 Under 30 (2016)
  • Ashoka Fellow (2017)
  • Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship (2018)
  • WEF Young Global Leader (2019)

Atreyee Gupta, through her non-profit organization Beam, is a shining example of the transformative power of education. By providing STEM education to underprivileged children, she is empowering them to break the cycle of poverty, realize their dreams, and become change-makers in their communities. Gupta's unwavering commitment and innovative approach serve as an inspiration to all who believe in the transformative power of education and the importance of investing in the future of our children.
